MOVING INTO MUSIC MONTHLY | SEPTEMBER …

September Banner 2022

In the Monthly, Principal of Moving Into Music, Lauris Hing writes …

Spring has arrived … long awaited, much anticipated.
We look forward to warmer and safer days … to outdoor activities, fresh air and sunshine – more opportunity to relax from winter hibernation. The Age journalist Jon Faine in Truly a troubadour city (14.08.22) wrote “let’s celebrate the nation’s cradle of music and creativity – Melbourne.” Spring opens up more chances to “get out there and celebrate the artists and performers who feed the soul of our metropolis.” We know that Melbourne is a cultural incubator for creative output and pursuits. Moving Into Music is proud to be part of the support system which drives and empowers this vital resource through music education and development of the musicians of today and tomorrow. Our teachers are professional musicians, our students are amateur musicians. Their pursuits are of vital interest to us. Hence we take pleasure, in this Monthly, to share with readers fresh insights into the world of our long standing guitar student Dr Anthony Cross.
Readers will recall from MIM  MONTHLY | OCTOBER 2021, that Associate Professor Anthony Cross, Director of Intensive Care at the Northern Hospital was facing testing times in the month ahead with a Covid surge approaching. We featured a special article which shared his insights of the ICU in thpandemic and also how music features in his life. Now, nearing a year later, we catch up with Dr Cross again. This year, during a well earned break from his frontline position, he took leave with a musical agenda. He chose to build his own guitar. His feature article, below, gives all music lovers and guitar players in particular, fascinating insights into the process – it makes for eye-opening reading – Enjoy!
