Carmina Burana by Carl Orff – performed by the MSO and the MSO Chorus …

Classical and Contemporary music will be featured in February at the MSO Bowl Concerts. Music for the people of Melbourne – a treat for all! Carmina Burana is also on the program. Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is the blockbuster of the choral repertoire.  Its worldly – and occasionally naughty – texts, based on 24 poems, were assembled by mediæval monks, but its flamboyant music is barely a century old. Right from the opening rousing chorus of “O Fortuna!” Carmina Burana will take you on an exhilarating and often visceral journey through the rhythms of life. Carmina Burana was the title of a collection of medieval Latin and German lyrics published in 1847, taken from a 13th century manuscript then in the possession of a Benedictine abbey near Munich.

The acclaimed MSO Chorus will perform this monumental work. The Chorus gives voice to the MSO and is the destination choir for many seriously dedicated and talented singers in our city.

Moving Into Music feels connected to this work since Carl Orff is a founding father of modern music education programs. We all … teachers, students and parents alike benefit from his contribution to music in our lives.
