Moving Into Music Mid Year Concert 1 – Pianos …

MIM Monthly|August

In the Moving Into Music Monthly | August, Principal, Lauris Hing writes …

“Dear Moving Into Music students, families  and friends,
Winter weather, winter illnesses and the Covid-wave continue on unabated as we move into August.
Sunday heralded a last and a first – the last day of July but it was also the first live concert Moving Into Music has been able to stage since 2019. Consequently, it was a significant and special day. MIM students and their families gathered at MLC in Kew to join our teachers for Concerts 1, 2 and 3 for this wonderful chance to mark the achievements of our students. We enjoyed both students and staff items at these well attended concerts.
Principal, Lauris Hing’s opening remarks spoke of HOPE … needed in abundance over the years of the pandemic. Hope for relief, hope for protection, hope for a cure, hope for release into covid-normal. She referred to butterflies – a symbol of hope –  showing the bunch of butterflies brought to the concert … brought to remind everyone that this was a momentous occasion – the realisation of hope held high for live music to return.
This day was MIM’s return to live music concerts therefore very special.
KEY DATES & NEWS
Solo Concerts:  LIVE @ MLC, Barkers Rd, Kew: Sunday 31st July 2022 … we share with you these glimpses
 Pianos Concert 1
Concert 1: Piano Students of Nicholas Young, Toby Mach & Yi-Ling Ng featured students from both the CBD and Kew studios of MIM. Students of all abilities from beginners, through intermediate stages to advanced Fellowship level presented items. The mix of ages and abilities enabled a broad showcase concert. Students performed with poise and confidence to the delight of a packed audience.
The pandemic has reminded us that we must all, adult and child alike, learn to deal with pressure. Performance at a concert is an exercise in dealing with pressure.
Pianos B Concert 1
Piano teacher Nicholas Young, a seasoned performer, spoke to the audience about performance nerves. He declared nerves are always present, whether one has performed 1, 100 or 1000 times … but with practice he said “it gets easier to to manage by learning to deal with the nerves”.
We are delighted that our students signed up, stepped up and delivered, despite any nerves they endured to bring us these concerts.
 Pianos C - Concert 1
The final student item of Concert 1 was an encore – delivered by an adult student whose son, who initially gifted her a set of piano lessons, had arrived late and missed her performance. MIM has oftentimes invoked the mantra “Give your Child the Gift of Music” … we should change this to “Give your Mother the Gift of Music”!
Concert 1 concluded with a staff performances: solo virtuosic Nicholas Young delighted with Schubert’s Impromptu in Eb then ensemble Yi-Ling Ng’s composition Loch Ness for which she played on whistle joined by Toby Mach on guitar and Nicholas Young on piano.
 Fun Final Glimpses
Staff Final
We sincerely hope that our performing students have found strength and fulfilment through their concert experiences. Moving Into Music is a community of music lovers which supports the effort and enterprise of its students and teachers. May the love of music prevail and bring enjoyment to our students while developing confidence, resilience and self-worth which will serve them well throughout their lives.

Let’s stride in August – with hopes for things to be ever brighter and better.
Stay Well, Stay Safe,
Take Care,
with kind regards,
Lauris Hing (Principal)
