We take great pleasure in introducing our new drums and percussion teacher with Moving Into Music … Sebastian Vargas plays all manner of percussion as a professional musician and as a teacher.
He is very experienced in both studio and online teaching and we are confident of a bright future with his addition to our dedicated Staff.
Sebastian Vargas
Master of Arts:Music (Bogotá, Columbia), B. Arts:Mus – Drums/Percussion (Bogotá, Columbia)
Sebastian, born in Bogotá, Colombia, learned to play drums from the age of 8 years, became quickly involved in performing and rising to lead the school Marching band. As a teenager he set up bands and developed the live performance skills leading him to study music at university.
He graduated Bachelor of Arts in 2012, specialising in Drums and Percussion performance. He developed his own highly successful teaching program which has been endorsed with glowing testimonials by numerous students. He is commended for developing techniques of teaching drums to students or all abilities – regardless of age or knowledge level.
Sebastian’s post graduate studies at Sergio Arboleda University in Bogotá led to Master of Arts: Music in 2018.
During this time, he directed ensembles, sets and managed drum clinics. He toured throughout Colombia working as a session drummer with many bands and artists, playing different music genres and styles such as Jazz, Funk, R&B, Hip-Hop, Latin, Gospel, Pop, Rock.
In January of 2020 Sebastian moved to Melbourne to expand and develop his music career as an international drummer and teacher.
Since arriving, he has joined bands and artists such as: Alethia, Hillsong Melbourne and Sleazy Hormigas House Band. Sebastian recorded his first professional album in Australia in 2020 launching “Down at Sleazys” – an instrumental funk album now available on Spotify, YouTube and all the digital platforms.
In addition to 10 years of experience teaching drums and percussion in Columbia, Sebastian has taught in music academies and privately in Melbourne.
He is a high energy drummer and teacher with an in-depth knowledge of music theory and a knack for inspiring students. He is dedicated and talented … always looking forward to improving his students’ skills, helping them to thrive whether their interest is in music for recreation or as a future professional.
