Concert Courage – How to prepare: getting organised to avoid anxiety or panic …

* PERFORMANCE AT MOVING INTO MUSIC CONCERTS  … CONCERT COURAGE

Concert Countdown – Three Weeks to Go – How organised are you? Feeling Anxious, panicky?

2020 was the year of online concerts. Now in 2021, we return our performances to live audiences. This can bring trepidation to students, most especially to first timers. Moving Into Music has built strategies to help students approach the next three weeks of preparation for the Concert. In doing so, we tackle the problems of nervousness and performance anxiety. We know that being organised, setting practice goals, evaluating practice, utilising breathing & relaxation exercises alongside building self-confidence through affirmation, are all ways of pushing through and dealing with the anxiety and nervousness which can afflict students.

Tackling performance anxiety can be transformative. It helps students face difficulties, summon up courage and overcome crippling challenges. This is a rehearsal for life!

Moving Into Music is pleased to be able to provide opportunities to learn life-skills via music.

Thus, we would like to share with you strategies which are based on and contain extracts from the text “Performance Anxiety” by British authors Gregory and Alison Daubney. Geoffrey Daubney (CPsychol, M.Sc) is a psychologist, author and speaker on the aspects of mentoring, well-being, and performance improvement. Dr Alison Daubney (PhD) is a teacher, mentor (pre-school – post graduate) researcher and author who promotes psychological well-being and optimal performance for musicians of all standards. She is Editor of the British Journal of Music Education.

We have produced a Concert Kit which utilises the strategies in Concert Courage to help students prepare for the upcoming concerts. Concert Kits will be most useful for first time performers and our younger student performersTeachers will refer to the kits with these students … So please, if you are given a kit, have it on hand with you at every lesson between now and the concert. Parents please give assistance with the kit wherever and whenever you can.

Best wishes to everyone in your preparations for the upcoming Solos Concerts on 20th June 2021
