Christmas Concerts: Sunday 5th December Online – the highlights …Concert 3: Guitar Students of Genaaron Diamente and Kieran Colton + Drum Students of Sebastian Vargas:
Kieran Colton was master of ceremonies for this final concert on Sunday 5th December. He began by presenting his guitar students individually to perform.
These young players all played with confidence and ease, demonstrating their advancing skills and their development over the months of online teaching. Ketan, who’s becoming a competent young guitarist, accompanied his brother Jay. Wearing Christmas hats, along with Samara in reindeer headband they set the scene for Christmas and the fun to follow.
Kieran’s adult student Maria, who’s only been learning one term, also braved the limelight and showed us what dedication and commitment can achieve in a short time.
Bingo was again a mid-time feature – Genaaron played the Christmas songs and carols on acoustic guitar: Flynn was a clear winner!!
Genaaron’s guitar students were represented by a small contingent of dedicated players: Molly, Freya and Mason. All showed poise and confidence.
The drum students of Sebastian Vargas were presented in videos. Audio fidelity for drums is a problem on Zoom – so students sent their video recordings to Sebastian who edited and produced them into elegant performance format for all to enjoy. The younger students are seen here – three on electronic drumkits and one on a full junior acoustic drumkit – all are showing emerging potential. We shall watch their progress with interest.
Sebastian’s advanced students included a senior student from Hong-Kong, a new young student demonstrating considerable promise and a teenage girl who skilfully edited and produced her own video showcasing her emanate talent and her love of pop and rock music.
The final student item was from Kieran with his group of six students who performed The Blue Danube Waltz on a video recording. Kieran and his students prepared and recorded their parts over Term 4. The group was supported by a talented Bass player student and Kieran himself – the result was charming and a delightful conclusion to student performances at this concert.
The finale was, as usual, a staff performance. Sebastian Vargas performed a medley via video – he demonstrated his talent as a guitarist as well as his virtuosic and dazzling drumming abilities … on his newest, most beautiful and beloved drum kit.
Applause ! Applause ! Applause! – Congratulations students and teachers – a wonderful end to this Concert Day.
