Welcome to Kimberley Chen – Piano Teacher

Lauris Hing, Principal of Moving Into Music says ” we are delighted to welcome Kimberley to our talented staff of teachers”.

Kimberley Chen is a multi-talented pianist and teacher. She studied at the University of Sydney – gaining two degrees: a Master of Music from Sydney Conservatorium, a Bachelor of Science majoring in Medicinal Chemistry.

During her studies, Kimberley performed with the Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra, was a finalist in Sydney Eisteddfod Kawaii Piano Competition in 2014 and a finalist in the St. George Instrumental Eisteddfod in 2015. She performed in numerous concerts both solo and with ensembles. Kimberley was also on staff at the Conservatorium teaching private lessons to children and young adults pursuing AMEB examinations under the Play at the Con program.

After graduation, Kimberley was relocated to Shanghai and Taiwan where she conducted solo concerts, taught in educational institutions and studios as an instrumental teacher in piano performance and accompanist.

Kimberley grew up in a family of mathematicians and teachers which fostered her love for teaching and the sciences. Her passion for music on the other hand was an innate one. She started learning the piano at the age of five.  At age 11 after completion of her recital debut, She won 1St place in the Baroque National Music Competition and the Prague National Piano Competition. In the following year, she won 1st place in Seidof & Sons International Piano Competition, 1st Place in Asian Pacific Cup International Piano Competition and 1st Place in Bohemia City Cup International Piano Competition 2005.

Kimberley is currently completing her second Master’s degree in Performance Teaching – this time at the University of Melbourne.  Having a passion for music and a solid background in music and science education, Kimberley is deeply interested in using scientific approaches and musical techniques to foster intellectual development in children and adults in her teaching. Kimberley believes music has power in developing problem solving ability and in the fostering of the mental and emotional awareness as well as physical facility. She says “this will foster students’ capability to becoming their own master teachers and be able to enjoy music throughout their lives”.

Kimberley is currently accepting students at our studios in CBD Southbank and Walpole St, Kew.
