Testimonials

When your 5 year old son approaches his parents and says “I want to play guitar” – what do you do? Well, we set off to find a teacher or school that was prepared to work with him. This led us to start a conversation with Lauris Hing from Moving Into Music. She felt that Jamie’s age was not a barrier and was enthusiastic about her school teaching him. She did suggest that to support Jamie’s goal that I attend and also play guitar. That’s where the father/ son guitar combination began. We were then introduced to our teacher Genaaron and we have never looked back, his skills and patience are extraordinary. Over the last three years our guitar playing has improved dramatically and we have made a great new friend in our teacher. For me each week spending an hour with my son playing guitar at Moving Into Music is my highlight. I thoroughly would recommend this school and its team to anyone interested in playing music.

Keep up the good work Lauris!
Daniel Riley is currently studying composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, under the tutelage of Paul Stanhope. Daniel was introduced to music through the pre-school program at Moving Into Music, an experience he identifies as ‘the single most significant thing to have happened to me’. He subsequently learned piano and theory through Moving Into Music, from which his passion for music was further developed and his earliest efforts in composition encouraged. The musicianship skills acquired through his piano lessons have proven invaluable in developing his compositional voice.

His String Trio was premiered at the VCE Top Sounds concert in March 2011, and his solo carillon work Résonances was selected for performance by the Carillon Society of Australia in November 2011. More recently, his Ovid Songs were premiered in 2013 at St John’s College where he currently resides, and his Postlude XIII for de-tuned solo violin is to be premiered by Ole Bohn in October 2013.

Besides his activities as a composer, he is an extremely accomplished choral singer, having previously sung with the National Boys Choir of Australia, Opera Australia, Sydney Conservatorium of Music Chamber Choir, and currently with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus (formerly Melbourne Chorale). Since 2010, he has also branched into conducting, and continues to perform as both an accompanist and organist.

He still (and always will) call Melbourne home.
I have nothing but praise for Lauris and her team at Moving Into Music. They provide an environment which is encouraging, supportive and most importantly fun.

My four year old daughter has attended the preschool program for the past 2 years. She loves the singing & dancing but preparing for the following week’s activities makes her feel as “grown up” as her big brother. The program is fabulous in preparing kids for school through building confidence, teaching them to present before a group and to work as part of a team. All of this whilst developing an appreciation of music. We both wouldn’t miss a week!!

My 9 year old son has been attending piano lessons since he was five. I have seen his skill and confidence improve dramatically and this has transferred to his schooling. The Moving Into Music teachers have always catered to his interests and have subsequently captured his attention. Each week he has happily attended his lessons and surprisingly practices without my “friendly reminders”.

Overall, I could not ask for anything more. A fantastic program with many benefits.

Thank you Lauris.
Just over three years ago I was given a beautiful acoustic guitar. With absolutely no experience whatsoever, I started having lessons with Moving Into Music. I was delighted and surprised at how quickly my teacher had me playing recognisable songs, and how much I enjoyed learning about the music and theory of guitar.

Since that time, my two teachers have taken me from absolute beginner to being able to play numerous songs and styles of music. I have learned how to improvise, and challenge myself with more complicated chords and variations.

My teachers have been patient, enthusiastic and encouraging every step of the way. They have been open to teaching me pieces I have chosen, but also suggesting pieces and styles that might interest and challenge me.

Lauris and her team at Moving Into Music are thoroughly professional and dedicated, and through this program, I have managed to achieve something to be proud of.
I like that Moving Into Music has a continuous music education program, starting from 6 months of age all the way to adults, so regardless of how old you are when you join, you will be looked after and guided through your music education in your own personalised tailored program.

My two sons both started with Moving Into Music at 18 months old, one is now 6 y.o. and learning piano with Marija, and the younger one is almost 3 y.o. and in the toddler program with Lauris.

For pre schoolers it offers a unique, stimulating and fun environment to be exposed to music. Lauris is dedicated and passionate about her work and music, and that inspires and motivates all her staff and students.

Unlike a lot of franchise music programs where the standards varies depending on the venue, with Moving Into Music you are guaranteed a consistent, high quality music program because it is run by a small group of professional, reputable music teachers.

The main reason we have stayed with the program is because both children really enjoy it and look forward to it every week. And actually, I really enjoy the lessons too and we have all met some wonderful families through Moving Into Music, families who share the same love for music as we do.
Anna (photo: left) I have been with Moving Into Music for about 13 years.

I started in the preschool classes and then progressed to piano lessons.

I took AMEB exams up to Grade 6 under the tuition of a number of teachers, each of whom has added to my musical education in different ways.

I am now learning and playing for enjoyment.

I love classical pieces and am currently working on Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

It has been wonderful learning to play and appreciate music with the school and I am looking forward to discovering new music.

Jo (photo: right) Both my children have been involved with the wonderful Lauris Hing and Moving Into Music for many years now.

Both started in the preschool classes which we chose, not only for their sound basis in principles of music education, but also because they were such fun.

Anna wanted to learn piano and I have enjoyed hearing her progress through the early simple tunes to the more complex and challenging pieces she is playing now.

Moving Into Music has been able to provide Anna with a number of excellent teachers over the years, some of whom she still keeps in touch with. Each one has brought their own individual approach and Anna has benefited from this variety. Their common link is an obvious passion for music.

Over the years we have loved the Moving Into Music concerts. Lauris strongly supports the opportunity for students to perform in public and this is a great experience for students and also a great motivator to practise! The annual Christmas concert is a highlight of the year.
